Abstract

Increasing motivation to learn English is a significant challenge for alumni, especially at STIE Yapman Majene. This study examines the effectiveness of the Joyful Learning method, which incorporates humor, in enhancing motivation and performance in English learning. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, the study involved 30 alumni who graduated within the past three years and are currently employed in various institutions or entrepreneurial ventures in Lembang district, Majene regency, along with 2 English lecturers. The findings from this community service indicate that humor in the learning process boosts participants' interest and motivation in learning English. Participants noted that a fun learning environment encouraged active class participation and facilitated easier material absorption. These results highlight that integrating humor in English learning not only enriches teaching methods but also reduces language anxiety and improves learning effectiveness. This humor-based strategy has significant potential to motivate alumni to further develop their language skills post-graduation. The study offers new insights into using humor as a teaching tool in higher education, particularly for English learning, and suggests that colleges should adopt more innovative and enjoyable learning methods to prepare graduates for a global market requiring strong English skills.
