Abstract

The Tabe' culture, referring to the behavior of respectfully greeting and addressing others politely, is integral to Bugis-Makassar society. This study analyzes the extent to which the Tabe' culture is still practiced among students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Hasanuddin University. Using a qualitative approach with online questionnaires distributed to 200 students, data were analyzed descriptively to understand the frequency and context of practicing Tabe'. Results showed that 92.9% of respondents consider practicing Tabe' important, but only 71.4% consistently do so. Additionally, 53.6% of respondents are concerned that Tabe' culture is at risk of extinction due to modernization and individualism. These findings reveal a gap between cultural values and actual practices, highlighting the need for educational interventions and campus policies that support the integration of Tabe' culture into the curriculum and daily activities. The study underscores the importance of cultural education in university curricula to strengthen cultural identity and social awareness.
